Curt 303 Lithgow 159 active member 303 Lithgow 159 Aug 20, 2007 3 2007-08-20T03:17 Mine is WWII vintage and doesnt have the bayonet lug but Ill still get the bayonet anyway. I dont like reproduction bayonets but dont mind the reproduction pouches and bandoleers or even the repro slings. Probably cheaper, too. Perhaps the rarest is the 15 round pouch with a piece added to the flap so it could be used with the 30 round pouch: early Korean War vintage. Lithgow 159 active member 303 Lithgow 159 Aug 20, 2007 5 2007-08-20T05:00 You are right about getting the fighting knife and not a bayonet. Does the M1 Carbine with the lug have a bayonet common with the 03 or GarandA Btry 235th Arty II Field Force, RVN March 69 - May 70 A Btry 235th Arty II Field Force, RVN March 69 - May 70 m1 talker 3,865 Veteran member m1 talker 3,865 Aug 20, 2007 6 2007-08-20T12:40 It has been a few years since I tried, but I think the M5 bayonet that fits my Garands also fits the M1 Carbines. Curt ReBobber 157 active member ReBobber 157 Aug 20, 2007 7 2007-08-20T17:52 The M5 Garand bayonet does not fit the M1 Carbine. The proper War2 sling for the M1 Carbine will have C shaped tabs on the sling ends. Some are dated on the inside of the sling on the snap end (forward end), visible when sling is unsnapped and laid out. There is one type of two magazine pouch that was sometimes used on the carbine stock. It was not designed for this, but some GIs thought it was handy. If you do try and mount one of these pouches, be aware that the snap on the inside of the backside will scratch the heck out of the stock unless you remove the snap first. They are both M4 bayonets and fit the carbines fine, but will not go on the Garands. So much for believing sellers at gun shows in the future Curt ReBobber 157 active member ReBobber 157 Aug 20, 2007 9 2007-08-20T18:45 Hi Curt. The earlier Garand bayonets, whether it be a M1905, M1905E1, M1942 (commercial M1905) or the M1 bayonet, all have a barrel loop. They fit the M1 Rifle, M1903 and 03A3 Springfield type rifles.
